Monday morning. The Scholz boys (Dominik and Jakob) were going to school, but we had made some plans for Finn and Keane to visit the school later on in the morning. Penny and Marget went for a run. Normally Marget has a loop that she walks. Penny was anxious to do some running, so she and Marget ran for a little while. She said Marget is a pretty strong runner - the whole family is very fit actually.
When I finally got up, our boys had been with Burkhard to the local bakery and the grocery store (Edeka is the name of the store). It's only a few blocks from their house. So, we had an easy breakfast and waited for the girls to come back.
At 9:45, Marget, Penny and I took our boys to the school (walked less than 5 minutes). The whole school was outside playing on the playground. We met up with Dominik and Jakob. Keane went with Jakob and Finn went with Dominik. Jakob is only in school until 11:45 and Dominik comes home around 1:00. They don't eat lunch at school, but have a snack around mid-morning.
After we dropped off the boys at school, we came back home and then left in the car to Schongau to visit the downtown a little bit. It is a beautiful town sitting right on the Lech River. The old, center of the town still sits on a hill with huge city walls around it. There are only about three or four gates that lead into the city. There are cobblestone roads and some very nice sites - including the Parish church from the 17th-18th century.
We were able to walk along the top of the wall in one spot and to find our way around to the Parish church. We stopped by some small shops - one selling handmade chocolates. Eventually we took a break to have some coffee at a cafe right in the center of the pedestrian market. This was the first time Penny got to see people who brought their dogs with them into a restaurant. We saw people with dogs everywhere and I don't think they can bring them into every restaurant, but it is common to see dogs inside stores and even restaurants.
This is where we had coffee.....
One of the main gates (pedestrian gates) - this one is the Frauentor - which even has a restaurant built into the wall above.....
Some random view of the street.....
And Einbahnstrasse.....a great memory of a story someone told us about being lost in Europe. They knew they had parked on Einbahnstrasse, but when they got back it looked different (Einbahnstrasse = One Way Street).....
