Leaving – Friday, March 13th, 2009. No wonder the tickets were so cheap…..Friday the 13th. Still, the flight was full as far as I could tell. We left in the evening – 5:00pm Atlanta time (10:00pm Munich time – only five hours difference from EST since we set their clocks ahead early – they call Daylight Savings Time – Sommerzeit – “Summer Time”). The three boys – Shannon, Finn and Keane – had middle seats. Our airplane was very nice and we each had video consoles on the back of the seat in front of us. Unfortunately, in our section of the plane, the videos/movies didn’t work at all. Games worked, but that was it. For me, this was better since it meant the boys would get bored early and would hopefully sleep.
The flight attendants could all speak German. There were lots of Germans around us, so we got to practice a few things. We had ordered special meals for the boys - Kids’ meals. All the food was pretty good (for airplane food) and we got a free beer/wine with dinner. After dinner, we went to sleep for about 5 hours. Penny only got a couple of hours of sleep. We also had breakfast on the plane and then landed in Munich around 7:00am Munich time…..9 hours.
